DEMOCRATS: YOU ARE GIVING THE GOP FODDER

The Democratic debate was a reflection of just the sort of caustic, alienating behavior the GOP is banking on. Senators Clinton and Obama need to step back and see how an independent voter just might perceive their salty exchange. To the credit of former Senator Edwards, he did not allow himself to be drawn into the fray. It is unfortunate his campaign finances appear to be straining.

Had the DNC given it thought, they could have forged a winning plan. Inviting the country to accept a person of color or a female candidate in a gradual fashion, within the V.P. position, would have allowed the public to get accustomed to the idea.

Perhaps that will sound awful, or narrow-minded, but the truth goes both ways here. It does not make any difference what the gender or color of a candidate is, yet, there are still too many voters living in the past. The issues of race and sex in this election have in many ways, marginalized the concerns at hand; mind the inferred comment about Sen. Edward’s being the only white guy.

Many would express it is time to get the good ole white boys out of the way and make room for executive diversity. That would be swell, except...America has not quite loosened the grip of her legacy. Our conquering, separatist ways, are hundreds of years old. The good intentions of individuals fostering equality on all levels - regretfully still have work to do. It may yet take another generation to open those still-closed minds.
